Broadview at Purchase College

Broadview at Purchase College is a unique retirement community located on a scenic 40-acre site within the Purchase College campus. A collaborative effort between college leaders, local business figures, and community stakeholders, the State University of New York allocated a portion of the campus to the development of Broadview, addressing the need for intergenerational living while also monetizing surplus land.

Broadview elevates the concept of a “campus-based retirement community” by integrating a 10,000-square-foot Learning Commons into the community commons building. Unlike typical campus-based retirement communities, where such interactions are external, this design places the Learning Commons at the heart of the community. It blends social and educational environments, shared by senior residents and students, fostering multi-generational interactions throughout every day. The space includes a performance hall, art studios, and other areas for art programs, guest lectures, and interactive workshops that capitalize on the school’s focus on Fine Arts. Positioned across from the campus administration buildings, the new Learning Commons also creates a vibrant campus quad, serving as an outdoor amenity that brings residents and students together.

As a Life Plan Community committed to lifelong learning and intergenerational engagement, Broadview offers 174 independent living apartments, 46 villas, 36 assisted-living residences, and 32 memory care suites. Forty-four of the independent living apartments are reserved for lower-income seniors, emphasizing Broadview’s commitment to inclusivity. The community was built to LEED Silver standards, demonstrating its dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
